The European Parliament has adopted new reforms to EU traffic regulations. The legislative package has already been approved by EU governments and has entered into force in the bloc's member states.
1. A penalty of license revocation imposed in one EU country will apply throughout the EU, even if the license was issued elsewhere. Effectively, the offender will be prohibited from driving anywhere in the EU for the duration of the ban.
2. Introduction of digital driver's licenses. Digital driver's licenses, accessible via smartphone, will gradually become the standard format in the EU, although drivers may still be required to present a physical license.
3. New drivers will be subject to a minimum two-year probationary period, and they will also face stricter penalties for drunk driving, failure to wear seatbelts, or failure to use child restraints.
4. Driving licences will be valid throughout the EU for 15 years for cars and motorcycles and five years for trucks and buses.
